FBI Season 8 Episode 21 Review & Recap: Long Shot

FBI Season 8 Episode 21 is titled “Long Shot” and begins with a tense operation. The FBI and SWAT are called to a corporate office building where armed suspects are inside. The attackers have already killed the CEO of Best Merch Corporate and they seem heavily armed, with possible explosives set up all over the building.

Even under pressure to move in, OA doesn’t allow a breach until the armored BearCat arrives. Officer safety comes first. His decision annoys AIDIC Green, but when the team finally goes in, the suspects have already escaped through a hidden hatch in the floor.

Inside the building, investigators make a chilling discovery. Human remains later identified as Ana Montero, wife of Darcio Montero.

The case leads quickly to the Alameda Underground (AU), a domestic terror group responsible for violent attacks as far back as 2012. It is believed that former members Hunter Bach, Mike Crosby and Wilson Corya are back in action.

Green vs OA Tensions Rise

Still angry about the delayed breach, Green sidelines OA by placing him under constant surveillance of June Taera, widow of the founder of the Alameda Underground.

OA knows the reassignment is personal retaliation, but unexpectedly reunites him with Zara. Their partnership is a mix of professional chemistry and subtle personal tension as they rehash unfinished business from the past.

Darcio’s Tragic Discovery

The FBI flies in Darcio Montero for questioning. He says Hunter Bach kidnapped his wife Ana and forced him to give up 20 sticks of dynamite.

Darcio complied, hoping to save her life, only to learn she had already been murdered.

Later the team tries to use Darcio to get Hunter out, but fearing Darcio will take revenge they switch him out for Scola. Wilson Corya sees what’s happening and opens fire but gets killed, so the operation fails.

Wilson’s dead, and the FBI’s lost a key lead.

OA and Zara’s Secret Investigation

OA surveils June and notices suspicious behavior. She’s on dialysis, but still showers more frequently than most.

Eventually he figures out that June is disguising conversations on burner phones with the sound of running water.

OA and Zara secretly bug her bathroom without official approval. The gamble nearly blows their cover, but Zara makes up for it by improvising a distraction to cover OA.

Their bet pays off.

Surveillance indicates June is planning another big attack.

The X-Probable Link

The FBI’s deeper investigation reveals a shocking financial motive.

June uses X-Probable, an online betting platform that allows wagers on real-world events. AU carries out terror attacks to manipulate betting for huge profits.

The murder of the Best Merch CEO and the bombing of an independent magazine were both attempts to influence betting markets.

The trail circles back to X-Probable CEO Simon who is compelled to reveal AU’s next target: a local marathon.

Marathon attack thwarted

OA and Zara use the intelligence from the calls intercepted in June to zero in on the attack zone.

At the race Eva manages to neutralize Mike Crosby before he can set off the explosives.

But the danger’s not over.

As June gets arrested, users on X-Probable start betting on if she will live.

Hunter sees an opening, goes for June’s position, kills her to secure the win for the bettors.

A wild gunfight ensues. June is injured and OA and Zara are trapped until Maggie and the rest of the FBI team arrive just in time to save them.

Episode Conclusion

Zara later accepts responsibility for the illegal surveillance operation, claiming the bathroom bugging was her idea.

Her decision saves her from discipline but results in her being referred to OPR for misconduct.

OA questions his faith in the Bureau with the episode ending, and Green’s increasing hostility sets up the possibility for future conflict.

Good episode but internal conflict is building.

“Long Shot” is among the most intense episodes of Season 8.

The action is sharp, the investigation is fast-paced, and the X-Probable betting angle gives a modern and disturbing twist to the story.

The most powerful aspect is the rising tension between OA and Green. Green’s leadership seems to be more ego than strategy and his willingness to push agents into reckless actions makes him less and less trustworthy.

OA’s refusal to compromise officer safety was the right call, and Green’s response was both unfair and dangerous.

The OA and Zara’s partnership is also some emotional heft, balancing the high-stakes action of the episode with character development.

Final Grade: 8.5/10

A suspenseful, well-paced episode that blends smart procedural storytelling with strong character tension and sets up bigger internal battles ahead.
