Widow’s Bay Episode 7: The much-anticipated episode finally gives answers about the island’s terrifying curse, as Tom and Wyck are thrust into one of their most dangerous missions yet. The supernatural horror, emotional revelations and tense action are balanced in the chapter “Seasickness” as the mystery surrounding Richard and the demon pact becomes clearer.
Richard Spills the Beans on the Curse
The episode starts right after Tom collapses after his horrifying encounter with the island’s demon. He is roused by Wyck’s and Sarah’s urgent calls to hurry to the museum.
When Tom arrives at Richard’s location, he discovers the impossible: Richard is alive.
Richard, though decayed, somehow manages to communicate via written notes, and insists on speaking only to the protector of the island. So Tom, who is now mayor in an acting capacity, steps in reluctantly.
Their conversation reveals the darkest truth the show has yet uncovered. Richard admits that the first settlers on the island were starving and desperate when the demon came to them. In exchange for survival and settlement, Richard agreed to sacrifice lives to the thing. His pendant necklace holds the signed covenant that sealed the deal.
Richard also explains why he can’t die of natural causes. The demon keeps him alive , because as long as he is alive the pact is still valid .
Richard says there is only one solution: to take him out of the island’s supernatural boundary. Away from the demon he should finally die and put an end to the curse permanently.
Tom and Wyck’s Audacious Plan
Tom convinces Wyck to give Richard’s plan a try, but Wyck will only do it if Richard stays locked in his coffin until they are at the border of the island.
Meanwhile, the episode briefly shifts its focus to Patricia and Bechir. Bechir responds to a noise complaint and starts to get suspicious about Tom’s disappearance. Eventually Patricia informs him of the supernatural chaos surrounding the island but he dismisses her as insane and intends to resign rather than get involved further.
We were back on the water and the tension was up fast.
Wyck wants to drag Richard’s coffin away from the border in a small dinghy, but Tom makes a stupid mistake and releases Richard too soon. Wyck angrily warns him that it is very dangerous to cross the border, and tells a traumatic story from his childhood when he lost a friend in a similar incident.
The confession adds emotional weight to Wyck’s character and also explains why he fears Richard will try to survive by any means necessary.
They were close to the border when Richard struck. Tom and Wyck get him back into the coffin just in time to cross the line. In a desperate moment Tom pushes Wyck overboard with a life ring so that the coffin crosses completely.
The bet pays off.
Once over the border Richard’s body falls to bones and dust, apparently breaking the pact once and for all. Tom gets Wyck out of trouble quick and for the first time in a long time both of them think they may have actually saved Widow’s Bay.
Evan learns the truth about his mom
The episode moves forward one of its biggest emotional subplots, as well as the supernatural storyline.
Kelly talks Evan into going through Tom’s things, hoping to find out what he’s been keeping secret. But what they find changes everything. Among Tom’s possessions are photographs of Evan as a child with his mother, which contradict Tom’s lie that she had died during childbirth.
This new information adds to the intrigue about Tom’s past and poses major questions about what really happened to Evan’s mother.
The End Scene Changes Everything
As if the episode wasn’t enough of an ending, the final moments hint that this nightmare may not be over yet.
Kurt throws a troublesome customer out of the inn, and the camera slowly pans to a painting on the wall. There’s a creepy picture of some young boy, probably Richard’s son, extending his hand for help after a boat sinks.
The scene strongly suggests that another descendant connected to the original pact might still be alive, which implies that the curse could still be active despite Richard’s death.
Review[edit]
Episode 7 was one of the best episodes of the season so far. The story comes back to the present timeline with a sense of urgency and momentum after the slower, flashback-heavy episode.
Tom and Wyck continue the series with their fun chemistry. Even as they work toward the same goal, they are constantly clashing, arguing and second-guessing each other, making their scenes tense and surprisingly funny.
The episode also works because it finally gives some meaningful answers without slowing down the pace. Richard’s confession explains the genesis of the curse, but leaves plenty of mystery for future episodes.
Evan’s discovery about his mother adds emotional complexity to Tom’s character, and gives the family storyline real stakes moving forward.
However, the ending leaves viewers wondering if the island is really safe. Richard may be gone, but that final tease sure seems to indicate that the evil of Widow’s Bay is anything but finished.
