Episode 7 is one of the most emotionally rewarding chapters of My Royal Nemesis so far, balancing romance, family conflict, corporate politics and personal growth. While external threats start to creep closer to Se-gye, the episode’s real focus is Kang Dan-sim’s struggle to allow herself to be happy and to let someone into her life.
A Love That Never Dies
The episode begins immediately after the passionate moment between Kang Dan-sim and Se-gye. Their relationship deepens, but Dan-sim is haunted by memories of another lifetime, making her conflicted.
More flashbacks shed light on Prince Cheongheon and his former relationship with Kang. Once he gave her a dagger called Cheomjado, telling her that the frightening reputation surrounding him was intentionally created. He discovered that rumors and fear kept people away and shielded him from any possible danger.
Dan-sim finds herself comparing Se-gye to the prince she knew before, in the present. Se-gye sees she is distracted and openly jealous. He tries to get close to her but she dodges the issue by pretending to fall asleep.
But the next morning has its humorous side. Se-gye wakes up on the tidal island, confused and with little memory of the previous night. Dan-sim soon learns that his drunken antics were mostly a sham and he was much more aware than anyone thought. They are eventually rescued by local fisherwomen, who tease the pair about their obvious chemistry.
Chail Group Under Increasing Pressure
Meanwhile, as the romance blossoms, trouble is brewing elsewhere.
Se-gye’s friends find security footage of him leaving with Dan-sim, and worry he might have been driving under the influence. His employees soon learn he has not had a drink and panic sets in straight away.
Meanwhile, the Chail Group grows more and more divided. Mun-do is seen to be vehemently against Se-gye’s marriage to Tae-hee. His anger increases when he finds out that Se-gye has been guarding a nurse involved in a corruption case which is still under investigation.
The power struggle within the family is becoming more apparent. Se-gye’s aunts fear that Tae-hee may eventually marry into the company to gain control. Each woman starts to play her own game, to influence the future leadership of the conglomerate.
The corporate alliance between Chail Group and Mochang keeps grabbing the public’s attention, and Se-gye’s personal choices become even more significant.
Dan-sim is a pawn in someone else’s game
Back home, Dan-sim has to deal with people who see her as a useful tool and not a person.
Ju-ran came to see her with a weird suggestion. Instead of telling Dan-sim to stay away from Se-gye, she encourages her to marry him and get Tae-hee out of the way. Dan-sim is insulted and frustrated by the suggestion.
Soon after, Tae-hee arrives with a very different message. She is confident and straightforward; boldly she expresses her intention to be Se-gye’s wife. Her social position and influence can help lift him up, whereas Dan-sim just brings trouble, she says.
This confrontation has a lasting impact.
We get a flashback that even Prince Cheongheon was forced to marry somebody else. The memory reopens old wounds, reminding Dan-sim of feelings of abandonment she has never quite gotten over.
Will Not Give In Se-gye
Se-gye is not one of those romantic leads who are wishy-washy about following their heart. He knows what he wants.
He openly expresses his love for Dan-sim and even breaks off his arranged marriage with Tae-he. He obsessively tracks Dan-sim’s work and supports her career from the shadows, and his love becomes more and more obvious.
Dan-sim’s acting career takes an unexpected turn for the better. Her performance in the period piece is so impressive that the show’s producers and writers expand her character to be the main villain of the season. Another cast member is annoyed by the promotion, but it shows Dan-sim is improving and getting more well known.
But even as these triumphs pile up, Dan-sim keeps pushing Se-gye away.
He comes to her apartment and expresses concern about the conditions in which she lives. She is cold in her response. Her harsh behavior is less a rejection of him than a protection of herself. She feels the best way to keep people at arm’s length in order to avoid more heartbreak.
A scandal breaks
Mun-do finally finds the Jeju security footage and decides to use it as a weapon.
A week later, with the Dynaestie launch gaining steam, reports emerge that Se-gye was involved in a drunk driving incident related to a nearby hit-and-run case. The media is all over the story right away.
The scandal does a lot of damage. Company stocks plunge, executives are furious, and public opinion turns against Se-gye in an instant.
Se-gye won’t drag Dan-sim into this, even though there are witnesses that could clear him. He is still determined to keep her out of the media’s crosshairs, despite being under heavy fire himself.
A Birthday of Pain and Hope
The emotional heart of the episode comes through the celebration of Seo-ri’s birthday.
Grandma Nam tries to cook traditional birthday seaweed soup but has memory lapses, possibly a sign that her condition is getting worse. She then collapses and the fear arises that she might be suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
The possibility crushes Dan-sim.
Grandma Nam, though dealing with her own health issues, urges Dan-sim to be happy and live the life she really wants. She reminds her to live free and not to limit herself because she is scared.
Later, Dan-sim finds out that Se-gye has secretly turned her apartment building and rooftop into a birthday surprise. Accompanying the decorations is a heartfelt note wishing her happiness whether or not she picks him.
The gesture is too much for her.
For someone who has spent years convincing herself that happiness is temporary, Se-gye’s ceaseless kindness becomes impossible to ignore.
Selecting Each Other
The scandal continues to spread and Dan-sim has an important revelation.
Rather than standing by and letting others protect Se-gye, she decides to protect him herself.
She runs off to find him and makes her choice clear. Se-gye tells him that her staying by his side could hurt both of them, but she won’t step back.
The episode ends with a strong image of Dan-sim holding his hand despite the photographers around them. For the first time, she chooses connection over fear, taking on the risks of loving somebody.
Weekly Recap
Episode 7 works because it lets both leads grow emotionally without manufactured misunderstandings or prolonged indecision.
The story also delves into Dan-sim’s fear of abandonment and emotional vulnerability, which ultimately explains her behavior. Her parallels with Prince Cheongheon are especially effective. Dan-sim seems to have built her own walls with hostility and distance, having used a scary reputation to keep people at bay.
One of the drama’s greatest strengths remains Se-gye. He knows exactly how he feels and always acts on those feelings rather than being in a constant state of uncertainty. It’s nice to see a male lead that’s emotionally honest and willing to fight for the relationship.
Most importantly, the series doesn’t overplay its love conflict. Dan-sim is already starting to get on her path to acceptance way sooner than expected, instead of spending several episodes denying her feelings.
The chemistry between the leads remains the best thing about the show. Their playful fights, stubbornness and emotional tension make for much more interesting scenes than the heavier parts of separation and longing.
Episode 7 promises an exciting new chapter as a corporate scandal heats up, family tensions mount, and Dan-sim finally emerges.
