Episode 5 Recap:
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder Season 2 Episode 5 begins with Pippa and Ravi arriving at an abandoned manor where they previously discovered a knife. Pippa is uncomfortable, she is wondering if Jamie may still be inside, but she doesn’t know. She has the knife with her, though she doesn’t know why. Connor joins them to search the property for clues.
The group only finds small packets, that look like they contain drugs, in the manor, indicating that the location has been used for illegal activity. As they explore they suddenly hear voices and quickly hide themselves. Pippa clutches the knife as they hear Howie talking to another guy about money. The stranger leaves, eventually, in a car.
The three try to follow the vehicle but Ravi tells Pippa to slow it down. She says no, pushing on until Ravi takes control and slams on the brakes. He accuses Pippa of losing control, and things get tense, especially when Connor gets hurt during their escape from the building. Connor blames Jamie for the chaos and Pippa begins to wonder whether the man talking to Howie is actually Nat’s boyfriend, Luke.
Growing Irritations and New Uncertainties
The following day Pippa goes round Luke’s house to find out about Nat. She asks if Luke is threatening her but Nat tells her to stay out of it and dismisses her concerns.
Ravi bumps into Max in the courthouse bathroom in the meantime. Max mentions Sal and Ravi flies off the handle, and the conversation quickly becomes tense.
A short time later the court announces that the jury has reached a verdict. Max was acquitted of all charges. Ravi tells Pippa the news straight away and it devastates her.
Psychological Effects
The verdict triggers a strong emotional response in Pippa including a panic attack. She rushes to comfort Nat, who is rattled by the result too. In prison, Becca also breaks down, learning the verdict.
Things get worse at school when Pippa finds a threatening note in her locker. Her rage consumes her, she faces Robin and Lauren. Robin still stands up for Max, pushing Pippa to the edge. She strikes Robin in anger.
Her parents try to calm her down and discuss the situation at home, but Pippa lashes out at them too. Ravi tries to support her and encourages her to talk to Cara but Pippa shuts him out.
Connor calls soon after with disturbing news. A dead body has been found in the vicinity. But even on the ground, Pippa gets away from the house. Charlie helps her process it all outside and reminds her to think about what really matters.
Max’s Escalation and Actions
Max spends the day celebrating the verdict with his family, posting online and further upsetting Pippa. In turn, she releases a recording of a phone call in which Max confesses to assaulting Becca. She also vandalizes the Hastings family home, calling Max a rapist in public.
When Max and his family get home, they see the destruction. Robin tells Max that the recording has now been leaked online, which makes things even worse.
Pippa and Ravi’s Turing Point
Later, Pippa meets Ravi and apologizes for her behavior, admitting that she’s tired of pretending everything is okay while her life continues to crumble. In a moment of weakness, she confesses her love for Ravi. He says he already told her how he felt in a memorial speech she missed. They kiss and things get physical between them.
The following morning, Connor tells Pippa that the body they found is not that of Jamie. Pippa is relieved, and she and Ravi head to Luke’s house. Here, Nat drops the bombshell that she plans on moving out and makes a shocking confession: Jamie tried to stop Max from assaulting her at the party.
Nat also insists that Jamie would never refuse to testify unless something serious had happened. She says Luke wasn’t home the night Jamie disappeared, and that he’s spoken to Layla.
Further Investigations
Pippa and Ravi turned on Luke wanting to know what had happened to Jamie. They offer him money that Jamie owes him in exchange for information. Luke finally confesses that he met someone he thought was Layla the night of the memorial. During the course of the conversation, Jamie uttered the words “child,” “brown” and “sick.”
Pippa puts the clues together and works out that Jamie meant Child Brunswick. She explains how serial killer Scott Brunswick used his son, “Child Brunswick,” to lure victims before killing them. Scott was killed in prison. His son should now be around 29.
That makes Pippa and Ravi realize that the real Layla has been looking for Child Brunswick. She phoned a number of people including Dan, Mr Clark, Luke and Jamie thinking that Jamie may be the same age as the killer’s son.
They work out with Connor that Jamie may have been helping Layla to locate Child Brunswick. The only way to find Jamie now is to discover who the killer’s son really is.
They begin to suspect that Howie might know the truth, and Pippa begins to think that Stanley might be a good match. This uncertain but tense revelation ends the episode.
Episode Discussion
This episode is one of the most compelling episodes of the season thus far. The mystery grows in layers and clarity, particularly with the addition of the Child Brunswick plot. Stanley has always had a suspicious air about him and this episode just adds to the theory that he is involved in the crimes from his father’s past.
Max’s story, though, is somewhat disconnected from the central mystery. His legal outcome and public exposure add emotional weight, but it’s unclear how directly it relates to Jamie’s disappearance.
Pippa’s emotional breakdown makes the story feel real and demonstrates the psychological cost of everything she has gone through. Her relationship with Ravi also takes a pivotal turn, providing her with a momentary emotional breather from the chaos.
The biggest question heading into the final episode is how Jamie’s disappearance connects to Layla’s search and if Stanley is indeed the missing piece of the puzzle. There is one episode left in the series and it is clearly building to a big reveal.
