Back at headquarters Colin is still conducting his own covert investigation into Pyramid. Sandy’s sudden disappearance, meanwhile, sends the story into classic spy thriller territory.

The episode’s best energy comes from the old spycraft
One of the best aspects of “Forbidden Eye” is its embrace of classic spy tactics over simple reliance on recent surveillance.
Colin tracking Sandy through hidden clues, coded journals and carefully planted breadcrumbs gives the episode a grounded intelligence-drama feel that’s been lacking in some earlier installments.
The old library sequence works particularly well.
It introduces one of Sandy’s former recruits, Nora. It reveals that Sandy had been quietly investigating attacks on his old Libyan assets. Her presence instantly ratchets up the stakes, not least because she embodies the dangerous legacy of agents who are never really retired.
Initially, the coded phrase “Forbidden Eye” suggests an emerging Libyan threat, but the eventual revelation that it translates more accurately to “Eye of the Pyramid” is one of the episode’s smarter narrative pivots.
It’s a clue that turns the entire investigation.
The enemy was never on the outside.
It was always there, in Pyramid.
The Crank Up On The Internal Mole Hunt
“Forbidden Eye” turns into a tense game of elimination when the team detects a leak somewhere in their own ranks.
The episode has done enough work with Nikki, Zeeb, and Kevin to make any one of them a plausible suspect, so the suspicion cast upon them is really uncomfortable.
The fake dead-drop operation is one of the most ingeniously contrived sequences in the episode.
The use of manipulated details and separate strollers as bait lends the whole arrangement a satisfying procedural precision. It’s the kind of spycraft the audience expects from a show like this.
When Kevin is exposed, the confrontation at Sarah’s house hits too close to home.
This is where Colin’s meticulously constructed lies finally crumble.
Sarah finding out who he really is is the real punch line because the emotional fallout has been building for weeks.
You feel her anger is well deserved.
And one of the most heart-breaking moments of the episode is Colin’s cold confession that he used her and never loved her.
But enough uncertainty in his delivery to suggest he’s not telling the whole truth.
That ambiguity is important.
It keeps Colin emotionally knotted up, rather than a dispassionate operative.
Toni’s Return Is the Season’s Game-Changing Twist
Let’s discuss the reveal.
And this is where it all changes.
Kevin is taken prisoner and appears to be about to finally reveal the conspiracy, but is mysteriously killed in hospital after being sedated by someone dressed as medical personnel.
Then the video surveillance shows the inconceivable:
Toni is still alive.
Alive, and not just alive but pulling strings behind the curtain.
‘It’s a real shock because the whole emotional basis of Colin’s investigation has been built on avenging her death.
Motivation has now been completely inverted.
Colin may have to stop Toni instead of fighting for justice for her.
That’s a very powerful set-up for the finale.
The more important question is why?
Why would she fake her death to blow her cover now?
Killing Kevin suggests desperation, which means her bigger plan may be on the brink of collapse or entering its final stage.
Either way, her return changes the course of almost every big event this season.
And yes, it prompts another obvious question:
Did Colin really move on from her?
Because if his business with Sarah is any indication, his unresolved feelings are about to become a serious liability.
Colin’s Emotional Strife Comes To Light
Much of Season 1 has felt like Colin is more a machine than a man, a capable agent going from one assignment to the next.
This episode finally breaks that shell.
His dealings with Sandy show his loyalty.
His face-off with Sarah shows his guilt.
And Toni’s homecoming will threaten to put him in an impossible emotional bind.
That’s the kind of boost this series needed heading into its finale.
Spy dramas are at their best when they pit intelligence operations against personal betrayal, and “Forbidden Eye” has finally got that balance right.
What Might Go Down in the Finale?
That leaves the finale with a few big questions to answer:
Toni faked her death for a reason.
Was she always working for Pyramid or had she been forced to betray?
Toni is on his own?
Clearly Kevin was not the big man in the ring.
There’s almost certainly another senior figure still embedded within the organization.
Can Colin be forgiven by Sarah?
Even if his feelings were genuine, trust like that doesn’t come back overnight.
Her answer could have a big influence on what Colin did next.
What is Pyramid’s real endgame?
There have been hints of dark operations all season, but now the series has to show the full scope of the conspiracy.

“Forbidden Eye” is easily one of CIA’s best episodes yet.
It’s sharp spycraft, meaningful character tension, and a twist that’s worthy of a finale and really re-energizes the season.
More importantly, it provides the show with something every great spy drama needs: a betrayal that feels personal.
If the finale lands the plane, this episode could be remembered as the one that turned CIA from a promising procedural into a truly gripping spy thriller.
